Rental Terms.

Last updated · 21 April 2026 · Version 1.0

This page sets out the terms on which South Bicycle Rentals (“we”) rents bicycles to customers (“you”). By confirming a booking on WhatsApp, you agree to these terms.

§01

Who can rent

  • Riders must be at least 16 years of age.
  • At pickup, you must present the same government-issued ID whose photo was shared during booking. Any government-issued ID is accepted.
  • Under-18s may rent only with a parent or guardian present on the WhatsApp conversation and physically at pickup.
§02

Pricing & payment

Daily rate
€15.00 per day per bicycle, flat.
Delivery
Optional. Flat €20.00 anywhere in Malta.
Deposit
10% of the total rental cost, paid via Revolut at time of booking.
Balance
Due in cash or card on pickup.
Late fees
€20.00 per day beyond the agreed end date.
§03

Your booking

A booking becomes binding when the owner has confirmed it by WhatsApp. Until then, your message is a request. We aim to confirm or decline every booking within the hour. If we decline (e.g. the fleet is fully allocated), your deposit is refunded in full.

§04

The deposit

The 10% deposit serves two purposes:

  1. It confirms your booking and secures the bicycle for your dates.
  2. It covers the cost of material damage to the bicycle or its loss during your rental, up to the deposit amount.

The deposit is refunded in full on safe return, unless the bicycle has been damaged or lost. Deposit forfeited in the event of material damage or loss. Any cost in excess of the deposit will be discussed with you in writing on WhatsApp before being invoiced.

§05

Cancellations & changes

  • Cancellations made more than 24 hours before the rental start: full deposit refund.
  • Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the rental start: deposit forfeited.
  • Date changes are accommodated where possible at no extra charge — message us as early as you can.
§06

Using the bike

  • You agree to ride the bicycle responsibly, observe Maltese traffic law, and lock it when unattended.
  • Bicycles may not be taken off Malta (including to Gozo or Comino) without prior written agreement.
  • Only the person named on the booking may ride the bicycle.
  • The rental is a contract of hire, not a sale. Ownership remains with South Bicycle Rentals throughout.
§07

Damage, theft & incidents

Wear and tear is expected and covered. Material damage (bent rims, broken frame, torn saddle, etc.) or theft results in forfeiture of the deposit. In the case of theft, you agree to:

  1. Report the theft to the Maltese Police within 24 hours.
  2. Provide the police report reference to us on WhatsApp.

In the case of injury or accident, please prioritise safety and call 112 for emergency services. Let us know as soon as you can.

§08

Liability

We maintain the fleet to a reasonable standard, but a bicycle is an open-air vehicle and you ride at your own risk. We accept no liability for personal injury, loss, or damage arising from your use of the bicycle, except where such liability cannot lawfully be excluded under Maltese law.

Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer under Maltese or EU law.

§09

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Malta. Any dispute that cannot be resolved on WhatsApp will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Malta.
